Memories Of Speaking At INBOUND
With Hubspot’s INBOUND happening this week, I am nostalgic for the many times I spoke at and attended the event. Before I moved to London, I lived in Boston for 15 years, and INBOUND was my annual ‘hometown’ event to look forward to. This meant that so many of my industry friends would be traveling to Boston for the event, which is something I really cherished. Not only was it a chance to catch up and learn from them, but I loved to opportunity to extend the hospitality that so many friends have extended to me in their hometowns over the years.
In past years, INBOUND has morphed from a local favorite event to one of the top global marketing events. So many famous names, such as Michelle Obama, Deepak Chopra, Serena Williams, Tina Fey, Amy Schumer, and many, many more have all spoken at the event!
As I was nostaligc this week for INBOUND, and honestly, the buzz and magic of in-person conferences in general, I took a lovely walk down memory lane. I decided why not share some of my highlights from INBOUND into a blog post?
A Bostonian, A Blog & An Unexpected Journey
My favorite talk that I gave at INBOUND has to be my first. They do say you never forget your first time, right? I was honored to be part of the first group to give Bold Talks at INBOUND, where you talk about something more personal to you. I gave a talk called, “A Bostonian, A Blog and an Unexpected Journey,” to share how starting a blog, The SavvyBostonian, as a creative outlet took me down a wonderful new life and career path, inspiring me to re-focus on a career in marketing and brand storytelling. Here’s the video from my talk!
If you prefer to read a write-up on my talk, I covered it on my SavvyBostonian blog: https://www.thesavvybostonian.com/2014/01/bold-talk-inbound-2013/
TV With A Turbo Shot: Why Fans Crave Dunkin’ Donuts + Social TV
Another year, I joined forces with Mike Proulx, who was the brilliant lead behind our agency team at Hill Holliday during my time leading social media for Dunkin’ Donuts.
Our talk was titled, “TV With A Turbo Shot: Why Fans Crave Dunkin’ Donuts + Social TV.” In the talk, Mike and I shared a range of social TV programs that we worked on together. Here’s what we shared:
- #DDFieldPass, where Dunkin’ Donuts launched the first-ever TV ad made entirely from Vine.
- #DDTopChef, where Dunkin’ Donuts took a traditional product placement and added a real-time social component via a virtual Google+ QuickFire challenge.
- #DDRedCarpet, a program integration with the Hollywood awards season, where Dunkin’ Donuts went behind the scenes and showcased what keeps celebrities running as they prepared for a big night.
- #DDSharkWeek, where Dunkin’ Donuts hosted a range of activities, from the “Take A Bite, Take A Pic” selfie contest, to on-air integration and a very forward-thinking real-time integration with Xbox.
If you missed out talk, here is a copy of our presentation which shares program highlights. Sadly, INBOUND did not capture it on video.
Pushing Borders and Boundaries With Global Content
I LOVED giving this talk! Here’s the teaser on it…
From explicit humor, to raw honesty and unusual experiences, countries around the world regularly inspire us with their unique approaches to marketing. Too often we default to the U.S. as the thought leader when it comes to innovative digital content and social media programming, but in this presentation, Jessica Gioglio will challenge that mentality. In this presentation, Jessica will share disruptive examples of how companies from around the world leverage the power of digital content to dazzle their customers and build relationship capital.
I came back to INBOUND to give this talk after moving overseas to London. Although I had worked in global roles while living in Boston, living and working overseas catapulted my international marketing experience to the next level. It was SO much fun to challenge and inspire a mostly American audience on how to take inspiration from different marketing trends and styles around the world.
While there is no video on this (come ooooon INBOUND!), I will include the slides below. I’m also tempted to film my own YouTube video on this. As I can, I’ll update this blog post, but feel free to nudge me in a comment down below – it will motivate me to make the video faster :).
5 Tips to Power Your Real-Time Marketing Efforts
Here’s a bonus one for you! My fabulous co-author, Ekaterina Walter, gave a talk on real-time marketing inspired by content from our book, The Power of Visual Storytelling. While I do not have the video from the talk, I did a detailed write-up on her brilliant and highly buzzed-about keynote from the event: https://jessicagioglio.comreal-time-marketing/
An Epic Book Signing For The Power of Visual Storytelling
The folks at INBOUND were also kind enough to invite us to do a book signing for The Power of Visual Storytelling one year! Every time I get to do a book signing, it’s a pinch me moment, especially at an event of the caliber of INBOUND.
Final Thoughts
A big thank you to INBOUND for all of the wonderful memories, on stage and off, over the years.
